Soho office for rent in Cambodia-Best resort style swimming pools in Phnom Penh

Soho office for rent in Cambodia-Best resort style swimming pools in Phnom Penh

There are dozens of hotel swimming pools in Phnom Penh to choose from. To make things easier for you, I’ve curated this list of my favourite Phnom Penh swimming pools – each one featuring pleasant surrounds and good service for a fair price. I’ve also made sure that the water quality at each pool ticks off the three C’s: Cool, clean and chlorinated!

All of these 12 outdoor pools welcome drop-ins and are centrally located. At the end of the post, you’ll find the locations for all 12 Phnom Penh pools laid out on a handy map.

Remember, these pools are all attached to equally lovely hotels that make for a wonderful place to base your stay in Phnom Penh! I’ve included a link for each in case you’re tempted to make a booking.

Baitong Hotel & Resort

  • Pool hours: From 9am
  • Contact: +855 23 223 838
  • Drop-in cost per day: Free when you have a treatment at Bodia Spa (2nd floor)

This newly opened urban oasis is located in Phnom Penh’s trendy BKK 1 neighbourhood. Surrounded by tall palms and soaring concrete walls with overflowing greenery, it’s probably the most visually impactful hotel pool in the city. The pool area is not open to drop-ins just yet (although the policy might change in the future) – but you can use the facilities for free when you book a treatment at Bodia Spa on the hotel’s second floor.

Whether your goal is to lounge away a sweltering summer’s day or to catch some rays, there’s no shortage of gorgeous hotel swimming pools in Phnom Penh. Even better, you don’t have to be a guest to take a dip, pull up a cabana or sip a poolside cocktail—most hotel swimming pools are open to day visitors.

Nothing beats a swim when you need to cool off on a hot Phnom Penh afternoon. Hotel swimming pools in Phnom Penh are first rate, featuring lush greenery, shady sunbeds, poolside bars and restaurants, and spa and massage facilities.

The beautiful thing is that hotel pools are open to drop-in guests, so even if you’re staying at the cheapest hostel in town, you can still splash out a few dollars and enjoy the facilities at one of Phnom Penh’s luxest hotels or urban resorts.

Go on, treat yourself!

As an expat living in Phnom Penh, I often met up with friends at my favourite hotel pool. If you work remotely, a poolside lounge makes for an ideal office space. Or, you could just stretch out and do nothing—the perfect recipe for a cheap day in Cambodia’s capital.

This post brings together 16 of the very best hotel swimming pools in Phnom Penh, and explains everything you need to know before visiting a hotel pool as a day guest.

The Kingdom of Wonder

Oh Cambodia. My love affair with this little country started on my first backpacking trip around Southeast Asia in 2012. A few years later, I moved to Phnom Penh and worked with a local NGO for a year. It was a life-changing experience. As much as I try to resist her charms, I always find myself being drawn back into this complicated, devastatingly beautiful place.

Unlike most travellers, I’ve peeked behind the curtain. For me, Cambodia’s flaws only serve to sharpen the edges of its subtle beauty and the grace of its people. The nation’s recent history is something every traveller should take the time to learn about.

From the bright lights of Phnom Penh, a perpetual construction site, to the silent rice paddies of the middle country; from the charming back roads of smaller cities like Kampong Cham, Kampot and Battambang all the way to Siem Reap’s roaring Pub Street. I’ll take it all.

Sunrise at Angkor Wat, dusk on the Northern Mekong (home to the most majestic light shows in the world, by the way), and hours upon hours of soul-affirming, heart-string-tugging, eye-opening experiences in between. If you give Cambodia just a little bit of your time, she’ll reward you with a lifetime’s worth of knowledge and perspective. Trust me, you’ll be back for more.

Phnom Penh Cafes: Where to Find the Best Coffee in Phnom Penh soho office

 the best Phnom Penh cafes

se this round-up of the best Phnom Penh cafes to track down the best coffee in Phnom Penh. Includes French and European style cafes, artisanal coffee roasters, and cafes with WIFI.

When I was living and working in Cambodia, I was constantly on a mission to find the best coffee in Phnom Penh. I think I sampled just about every coffee shop in the capital at least once or twice before settling on a few favourite go-tos.

Every time I go back to visit, I’m surprised to see how many new Phnom Penh cafes have opened up. You might not notice it at first, but Cambodia’s capital city has an amazing coffee scene that’s only getting better with each passing year.

Phnom Penh cafes aren’t just for expats and tourists, either. The burgeoning cafe scene is very much supported by students and young Cambodians, some of whom have turned into coffee entrepreneurs and opened up their own spaces. Brown Coffee is a locally owned cafe chain that now competes with Starbucks (more on chain cafes later).

Pass App Cambodia, the country’s first ride hail app, takes the hassle out of ordering a tuk tuk or taxi. Here is my complete guide to using the app during your visit to Cambodia.

When I lived in Phnom Penh in 2016/17, my biggest bugbear was using tuk tuks.

Tuk tuks are ubiquitous in Cambodia and by far the easiest way to get around Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and other cities and towns. But negotiating fares and explaining directions to drivers who you often can’t communicate with (and who sometimes can’t read maps) can be really frustrating. I always found haggling with tuk tuk drivers over tiny amount of money soul destroying.

When I returned to Cambodia this year, I was gleeful to discover ride hail apps have finally made it to the Kingdom. Grab launched a few months ago, but it’s Pass App Cambodia, a locally developed app, that’s been making big waves.

Judging by the hilariously inadequate FAQ page, Pass App Cambodia is still ironing out some kinks in its business model. I thought I would weigh in with my personal experience of using the app to offer you some tips.

Tips for being a responsible traveller in Phnom Penh

When Pass App arrived in Cambodia, it brought with it a new fleet of apes or rickshaws – enclosed three-wheeler vehicles that are very different to traditional Khmer tuk tuks. I like riding in these much better, as you feel less exposed.

A Pass App ‘ape’ in Phnom Penh.

Overall, using Pass App Cambodia has made my time here so much easier. However, there are some downsides to the platform, too.

  • There’s no option to pre-order a ride – you can only instant book.
  • You can only make payment in cash. Unlike Grab, you can’t link your credit card to your account. (Local users can connect with Wing.)
  • The company’s reporting and feedback mechanisms are very weak (although I expect this will improve with time).

Service One – How to move around Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh isn’t the most walkable city. Sidewalks are often missing, and the traffic can be a hazard. It’s safe to walk around the central area, but for anything over 10-20 minutes, I recommend finding an alternative.

Phnom Penh doesn’t have a public transport system, so the best (and only) way to travel longer distances is using tuk tuks, auto-rickshaws and taxis. Download PassApp, the local equivalent of Grab or Uber, to easily book rides on the go.

Brush up on how to use the service with my complete guide to using Pass App Cambodia. It also includes some important information about staying safe when using tuk tuks.

The best apartment in Camboida is Service One apartment is located in Tuol Tompoung (Russian Market) is my favourite neighbourhood in Phnom Penh. It has a local feel, and because it’s very popular with expats, it has an incredible food and bar scene. It’s a bit further out, so factor in travel times.

Recently, I published an extensive Phnom Penh neighbourhood and accommodation guide. Here is a basic summary plus my recommendations for where to stay in Phnom Penh if you’re a first-time visitor.

Most tourists stay near Riverside (Sisowath Quay). Personally, this is my least favourite part of Phnom Penh. However, it is convenient to most of the must-see attractions, so I’m not completely averse to staying at Riverside if you have limited time (truthfully, I’ve stayed here a bunch of times, too).

A solid mid-range option at is Riverside, Point Boutique Hotel has views of the water, a gin-themed rooftop bar, and is close to all the action of Sisowath Quay. For budget travellers, I recommend Sla Boutique Hostel.

Raffles Le Royal is Phnom Penh’s premier hotel and can’t be beat for a luxury experience. For something different, designer hotel The Balé is located a bit further out of town and has a river-facing pool, exquisite designer suites with private courtyards, and a great on-site restaurant. Read my review of The Balé.
